• Our history

The current Gran Palace Hotel is located in one of the most significant and historic places in the center of Santiago. In the old gallery where now stands our modern Spa and Convention Center, formerly there was the unforgettable "Cine Gran Palace". With its imposing and elegant classic style, it was undoubtedly one of the most important movie theaters of Paseo Huérfanos, from its appearance in the late 50's until it held its last function, in the year 2010. From such refined style and category it was the old Cinema, which was commissioned to the renowned Chilean painter and genius of the plastic arts, Nemesio Antúnez, the creation of two murals to decorate the breaks of the building. The walls of our Convention Center still house the works of the year 1955, called by the artist as "Sun" and "Moon", oils that incorporates silver plates and gold threads. The mural is in perfect state of preservation, thanks to the restorations financed by the owner of our Hotel in recognition of its high aesthetic and patrimonial value.
